It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Rev Associate Professor Vicky Balabanski as Principal of Uniting College for Leadership and Theology.

Vicky is a highly experienced biblical scholar, currently the Director of Biblical Studies, where she has served on faculty (including previously at Parkin-Wesley) for nearly 30 years. She has supervised 15 PhD students and has an extensive publication record, including a commentary on the book of Colossians. Vicky is an ordained Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church, and a highly respected leader throughout the church and beyond.

‘I am pleased to step up to this important role in the life of the Uniting Church. I am convinced that, as the Basis of Union says, “God has never left the Church without faithful and scholarly interpreters of Scripture … who have reflected deeply.” This present time calls for us to equip the next generation of those deeply faithful interpreters – missional leaders who can articulate the Gospel in ways that bring its meaning and significance into the present. I look forward to help guide and shape the next phase of Uniting College’s life,’ said Vicky.

Vicky commences in the role on August 1st, 2022. Rev Dr Sean Gilbert is serving as Acting Principal in the interim.

Wonderful! I will never forget Vicky reading John 1 in Greek. She certainly opened my eyes to the richness of the Greek text.
