Newland Uniting Church at Victor Harbor and its ‘LiveArts at Newland’ monthly concert program has been awarded the 2022 ‘Community Event of the Year’ by Victor Harbor Council.

City of Victor Harbor Mayor, Dr Moira Jenkins said, ‘Our passionate community members and diverse community groups go above and beyond to make Victor Harbor even better, and we are so fortunate to have so many generous volunteers who share their time and knowledge as active citizens.’

The 2022 Citizen and Community event of the Year awards will be formally presented at the City of Victor Harbor's Australia Day Celebrations on 26th January, 2022. Festivities will take place at the Horse Tram Barn with a free BBQ breakfast, followed by a formal ceremony and live music entertainment.

The LiveArts at Newland high profile concerts draw patrons from across the Fleurieu Peninsula and beyond. These concerts successfully bring together a diverse range of musical performances to nurture community well-being and mindfulness. The convenience of regular concerts in one of Victor Harbor's iconic heritage buildings has been appreciated by patrons, especially by those who have been reluctant to venture far during the pandemic. Feedback from audience members highlights the concerts as being an asset to the local community and make excellent use of the unique and renowned crescent shaped acoustic performance space available at Newland Uniting Church.

The full concert program for 2022 featuring outstanding artists and performers has already been prepared and negotiated by artistic director Trevor Fletcher, supported by an active committee at Newland (Victor Harbor) and Port Elliot Uniting churches and local community volunteers from service clubs and other denominations.

These high quality concerts have been offered to local residents at affordable prices seldom found for comparable concerts presented in Adelaide.

It many ways, it has stretched Newland's ancillary facilities but has awakened us to the reality that there is no limit to the latent potential of diversity in ministry to the wider community and to the willingness of those outside the church to be involved in worthwhile projects.

Bookings are available through Try Booking. ‘Swan's’ local pharmacy has also been most generous in providing tickets sales at no cost.

It is a truly unique venture drawing many people into the beautiful Newland Church, some for the first time ever!
