A Safe Place

Called to Care, Uniting Church SA

Are you familiar with the Uniting Church’s “A Safe Place” statement? It informs the important work of the Called to Care initiative within the Synod’s Pastoral Relations and Mission Planning team.

Called to Care training sessions educate participants on their legal obligation to report reasonable suspicions and concerns about child abuse and neglect. All church leaders, elders and members of church council are encouraged to participate in training, and to maintain their knowledge in this area.

Full day (9.30am - 4.30pm) Child Safe Environments Training will be held on Saturday 22 October at Woodville Uniting Church and Saturday 26 November at Glenunga Uniting Church.

A half-day Child Safe Environments Refresher will be held on Sunday 23 October, 1.30-4.30pm, at Adare Uniting Church. This session is designed for those who have participated in training in the last three to four years.

The Art of Listening

A couple of years ago I was participating in a course which had a smattering of people from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background. I would have said that they were good participants in class discussions but not the most active ones, and I gave little thought to it.
