WHS: Electrical Safety

Electrical safety switches (residual current devices) must be installed and tested regularly in all workplaces and public buildings, including churches.  They are also required where any portable electrical equipment is used and must be installed in all manses and rental properties.

Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.  To prevent fires, roofs must be well maintained to prevent dampness getting into cables.  Underground cabling should be clearly marked and identified in accordance with local requirements.  Portable electrical equipment must be regularly tested and tagged* by an accredited electrical technician.

(*Frequency of testing will vary with the nature and regularity of activities.  Booklets on electrical safety from SafeWork SA can be obtained from Insurance Services.)
