Suicide: How can my community help?

If you know someone is in real and immediate danger of taking their own lives, call 000 straight away.

If the danger is not immediate, but highly serious, call a crisis line, like Lifeline (13 11 14) or SANE (1800 187 263).

"Communities have a huge impact on the support families receive when they are dealing with matters relating to suicide and loss. Your support will make all the difference. The first step is being able to talk openly without judgement (see "How do I help my friends") but there are other ways a community can help too.

Communities have shown their support by holding forums and information days throughout Mental Health week or on Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.
