What to expect at the June 2019 Presbytery & Synod Meeting
This weekend, Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June, will be the last meeting of the combined Presbytery and Synod of South Australia. The Presbytery of South Australia will be dissolved in a worship service that will also conclude and celebrate the contribution of Mission Networks. Following this service, we will welcome two new Presbyteries that have been created.
The two Presbyteries, Generate and the Transitional Presbytery, will have the opportunity to elect their office bearers and address any proposals and business that are brought for their attention and set dates for their next meetings.
Choosing a Moderator Elect
Importantly, at this meeting the members of the Synod of South Australia will choose a new Moderator who, over the next three years, will provide members of the Uniting Church in South Australia with prophetic and pastoral leadership, as well as express and encourage fulfilment of faith and witness of the church.
There are three candidates for Moderator Elect: Rev Bob Hutchinson, Rev Alison Whish and Mr Bronte Wilson. There is a full profile available for each candidate on the UCASA website here, and it is strongly advised that those voting at the meeting familiarise themselves with the profiles before casting their vote. Candidate presentations will also be held during the meeting.
Among others, each profile holds information on the candidates’ background, wider church involvement and their vision for the Uniting Church in SA.
Proposals for the Synod
The Synod of South Australia will have seven proposals to address at this meeting. Among others, these include:
All the documentation outlining the proposals and the program for the meeting can be accessed online here or downloaded through this link.
Additional Information
The meeting will once again be held at the Adelaide West Uniting Church, 312 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Brooklyn Park.
There is a change in the usual starting time for this meeting. It will commence at 9:00am on Friday morning rather than the evening, as has been the case in the past. Registration opens at 8:15am and the roll closes at 10:00am. This means that all attendees must have registered and received their name tags by 10:00am to be eligible to vote at the meeting.
The dissolution of the Presbytery of SA and the conclusion of Mission Networks will be recognised in worship on Saturday morning. Following this, the two new Presbyteries will meet.
