Happy birthday, Uniting Church in Australia!

Posted in News

Today the Uniting Church in Australia celebrates its 39th anniversary. Uniting Church SA Moderator Dr Deidre Palmer reflects on the Church’s life and ministry.

On this 39th anniversary of the Uniting Church, we have much for which to give thanks to God.

We are a church built on the ministry of every member, engaged in God’s mission.

We are a church that affirms the equality of women and men.

We are an intergenerational Christian community, where people of every age have a voice and contribute to our life.

We are engaged in participating in God’s mission, through acting justly and compassionately in the wider community and the world.

I have a deep sense of hope about our life and ministry as the Uniting Church. This hope is grounded in the many ways we see God at work in congregations, in the ministry of chaplaincy, in the work of our Uniting Church agencies. And it is grounded in the lives of Uniting Church members, who are embodying Christ’s love and compassion in their work places, relationships, and community engagement.

Our President, Stuart McMillan, has a national overview of our life as the Uniting Church in Australia. In his greeting to us on this anniversary of the Uniting Church (see the video or the transcript), he shares an inspiring word about the nature of our church, and its movement into God’s future.

On this anniversary day, let us give thanks to God for the reconciling love of God, which continues to shape and transform our lives and world.
