A prayer for Turkey

Posted in News

On Tuesday 28 June, at about 9.50pm, suicide bombers armed with automatic rifles attacked Ataturk, Istanbul’s main international airport. The attack killed 43 people and injured more than 200. Details about the attackers have begun to emerge. Although it has yet to be confirmed, Turkish officials have expressed the belief that Islamic State was responsible for the attack.

In the wake of the attack, as people mourn and wait for further information, Uniting Church SA Moderator Dr Deidre Palmer offers this prayer:

“We pray for the people of Turkey, for the people who are injured, and the people who have lost loved ones as a result of the recent Ataturk airport attacks.

“The Uniting Church advocates for love and compassion, and we give thanks to God for all those who stand up against hatred and violence.

“God, continue to encourage us to be advocates for a peaceful and just world.”
