Posted in News

Below is the brief summary of Synod Standing Committee meeting held on Friday 12 June 2020, to inform the wider Uniting Church in SA community of the discussions, deliberations and decisions arising from each meeting.

Due to COVID-19 circumstances, the meeting was constituted using MS Teams video conferencing.

The Synod Standing Committee agreed that the 2020 Annual Synod Meeting will be held in the same style as the previous meetings but from Thursday 11 – Saturday 13 February 2021. This is a deferred date from what was previous planned to be for the end of October 2020. It is preferred that the meetingbe conducted at the Adelaide West Uniting Church and Uniting College for Leadership and Theology campus. In the event that this style of meeting cannot be conducted due to ongoing government restrictions, the Synod Business Committee will plan a modified meeting for those February 2021 dates.

The UnitingCare report presented requests for the appointments to the Resthaven Inc Board, the Board of UnitingCare Kapunda and the Board of UnitingCare Wesley Bowden. These appointments were all approved by the Synod Standing Committee.

The 2019 Financial Statements would have been presented to the June Synod meeting, however because this meeting was not able to take place in person, the statements were presented to Synod Standing Committee for approval. Mission and Service Fund Financial Statements for the quarter ended 31 March 2020 and the overview of Financial Statements 2019 Report for the year ended 31 December 2019 were noted. Synod Standing Committee acknowledged the ongoing commitment of congregations to the wider Church through their 2019 Mission and Service Fund contributions.

In addition, it was also reported that UAICC has been working well with a balanced budget.

Rev Mark Kickett presented a verbal UAICC report highlighting the upsurge in the growth and development of Congress leadership. UAICC is also looking for a new direction with the appointment of a UAICC Finance and Administration Officer, which has recently been advertised on the Synod website. Mark has moved into a National role and is vacating some of his SA Congress work. This has provided an opportunity for a growing role with the State Office whilst continuing to maintain relationships with UAICC partners.

The minutes from the meeting will be posted here when available later this week.

It was decided that the Synod Standing Committee meetings will be held more frequently with less business meetings for the immediate future. The next meeting will occur on Friday 3 July and the future dates will be determined as the situation and need arises.
