Synod Meeting 23 Update

Planning for the SA Synod 2023 meeting is progressing well. The meeting is to be held at Adelaide West Uniting Church utilising additional spaces at Uniting College for Leadership and Theology (UCLT) - Yarthu-Apinthi. Below we have provided some information and key dates to guide you in the coming weeks.

INSTALLATION OF MODERATOR ELECT

Rev Peter Morel will be installed as Moderator at a service to be held at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 21^st June 2023. This service, will be held at Adelaide West Uniting Church, is an open event and all interested persons are invited to attend.

CELEBRATION OF MINISTRY SERVICE

This event will be held at Adelaide West Uniting Church on Friday 23^rd June commencing at 7.00 pm. All interested persons are invited to attend this celebration service when retiring Ministers, recent ordinands, significant milestones of ministry and lay preachers will be acknowledged.

SYNOD MEMBERSHIP

Presbyteries have been invited to elect their representatives and advise Synod of their elected members by March 31^st 2023. These Presbytery elected persons, Ex officio members, Synod appointments and co-options will comprise the membership of Synod 2023.

Business sessions will commence at 9.30 am on Thursday 22^nd June 2023 and elected members will need to check in on arrival to receive relevant information and resources. The roll will be closed at 11.30 am on Thursday 22^nd June. Registered members who cannot check in by that time because of exceptional circumstances will need to contact the Synod 2023 Event Manager, Malcolm Wilson to seek a late arrival exemption.

LIVE STREAMING AND VISITORS

We are planning to live stream most sessions of the event. This will enable interested persons to observe the Synod meeting. Log in details will be advised nearer to the date of the event. We will provide a dedicated area for visitors to attend and observe the Synod meeting.

REPORTS AND SUPPORTING INFORMATION

Reports, Nomination forms and other information will be uploaded onto the Synod website at the following link and we urge you to keep checking the details on a regular basis: UCA SA - 2023 Synod Meeting.

PROPOSALS

Proposals can be submitted by members of Synod and we ask that proposals be sent as soon as possible and no later than Friday 19^th May 2023 as the program will fill rapidly.

Proposers are required to:

• consult with the relevant committee or council about your proposal before submitting it
• if required by your proposal commit to resourcing the discussion
• consider any financial implications of the proposal and make budgetary suggestions if necessary.

Late proposals will be accepted at the discretion of Business Committee.

MEMBER REGISTRATION FOR SYNOD MEETING

All Synod members will be required to complete an online registration process which we plan to send out on 19^th April 2023 and these should be returned ASAP.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations for Synod boards and committees will form part of the meeting.

These include:

• Synod Standing Committee
• Covenanting Committee
• Representatives to 17th Assembly to be held during July 2024
• Mission and Leadership Development Board.

Please note that only Synod members can be nominated for Synod Standing Committee and 17^th Assembly. Other council and committees are open to all Uniting Church members.

Nomination forms will be available at UCA SA - 2023 Synod Meeting.

Although nominations remain open till 5.30pm on Friday 23rd of June, lodgement by 9^th June 2023 is preferred.
