December 15 marks five years since the Final Report of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Assault. Since then, UCA has remained committed to carrying out the recommendations of the Report. This includes the establishing of UCA Redress Ltd in 2018 to acknowledge the abuse that occurred in UCA institutions and to help provide redress to survivors in the form of access to counselling, a redress payment, and the option of a direct personal response.

The last five years have been full of opportunities for learning and growth for the Church. Some of the important lessons from the Royal Commission relate to how we respond to people who experienced abuse. The findings of the Report will continue to impact how we move forward as a stronger, more inclusive community.

To help community leaders continue this important work, UCA Redress Ltd has produced a toolkit on Trauma-Informed Care to guide you when supporting people with trauma – particularly survivors of child abuse – and a toolkit on Vicarious Trauma to help you manage your own mental health as you do this support work. To request your own copy of these toolkits or to enquire about other available resources regarding redress for survivors of child abuse, contact UCA Redress Ltd at Turn on Javascript!.
