Resthaven welcomes new staff and residents in Aveo acquisition

On 1st November, Resthaven welcomed staff and residents from eleven retirement villages in South Australia as they joined under the Resthaven banner. The move marks the official settlement of the acquisition of 799 retirement units that were previously owned by Aveo. Resthaven has worked in partnership with Eldercare, also a UnitingCare agency, which acquired 234 units from Aveo in the same agreement.

‘Around 60 individuals have joined Resthaven last week as part of our Retirement Living staff team,’ Resthaven CEO Darren Birbeck says. ‘We have been pleased to get to know them over the past couple of months and are now delighted to officially welcome them to Resthaven to continue to support the residents within the villages.

‘The acquisition has increased Resthaven’s retirement living portfolio substantially, adding to our suite of options for older people. It complements our strategy of planned and considered growth and includes the transfer of approximately 90 home care recipients.’

Since the announcement of the successful bid for the units back in August, Resthaven has worked with Aveo to ensure the transition for staff, residents and clients has been as seamless as possible.

‘We have held resident meetings during October at all sites to introduce ourselves and offer reassurance to those who live there,’ Darren says. ‘It has been a great opportunity for myself and Mel Ottaway, our Executive responsible for retirement living, to get to know our new residents and understand what is important to them.’

Resthaven now owns more than 1,200 retirement units within its Retirement Living portfolio, making it the fourth largest retirement living provider in South Australia.

Established in 1935, Resthaven is a South Australian not-for-profit aged care community service associated with the Uniting Church in Australia.

Every day, Resthaven shares the lives and wisdom of older people and their carers, opening doors to the full range of aged care service options available.

Services are provided throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Fleurieu Peninsula, lower Barossa region and the Limestone Coast of South Australia.
