Reflection of the Week - 19 January 2021

A new year has once again begun and usually we look to starting afresh with the hope of a great year ahead. At times we may be fearful about the future, especially after the challenges presented to us in 2020. It is at times like this that we need to draw on the strength and peace that only God can give us, taking comfort that our God is in complete control.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. – Psalm 139:1-3

Psalm 139 is one of the more well-known and well-beloved psalms—and for good reason. This psalm speaks to us of the pervasive presence of God, and his intimate knowledge of us, which offers us an outsized measure of hope and comfort in the face of adversity and trial. 

The beginning of Psalm 139 speaks of an all-knowing God. God's eyes can look into our heart and read us like a book. He not only knows what we have done and said, but he knows why we did those things. We should be overjoyed at the fact that He knows who we are. The world around may judge us for what is seen, however God knows our heart. We should be overwhelmed by the magnitude of God’s love and knowledge; and thankful that He knows us perfectly.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for knowing me and for continuing to love me anyway. May I find your strength through and with me and trust your perfect will for my life.
