Reflection of the Week - 7th June 2022
Have you ever had an experience so incredible that when you tried to explain it to someone else, words didn’t really suffice?

Psalm 1 proclaims truths echoed in the book of Proverbs: that following the wisdom of God is the best and wisest way to live. Like Proverbs, this psalm declares that those who obey God’s teachings can avoid consequences arising from sin and disobedience.
Psalm 1, typically ascribed to David, stresses the importance of ordering one’s life according to God’s Word. This emphasis sets the tone for the rest of the collection of psalms. Themes in this passage echo the early chapters of Proverbs, with an emphasis on seeking godly wisdom. Psalm 1’s emphasis on meditation on and obedience to God’s Word parallels God’s instructions to Joshua when He commissioned Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land (Joshua 1:6-9). It is the blessings and curses we read about in Deuteronomy 28. New Testament passages that emphasise the link between devotion to God’s Word and righteous living include Matthew 7:24-27; Colossians 3:16-17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:19-25; and 2 Peter 1:19-21.

Advocate, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Wisdom, Spirit of God, Holy Spirit, wind, breath, fire – across our Bible and within our Christian traditions, we experience many aspects of the Spirit.
With so many competing messages, rules, expectations, and demands, it is often hard to hear God’s voice clearly.
