“Money, money money… it's a rich man's world”

sang Abba.

“Ah-ah-ah, all the things I could do

if I had a little money –

it's a rich man's world”

Despite the global financial crisis that had come and gone,

despite two thousand years of Christian teaching,

it still seems to be the rich who get ahead.

And yet…  Matthew 5    The Beatitudes

1Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them saying:
3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Oh God, you turn everything on its head.

I am truly rich when my life is centred in you and my focus is clearly on the values of your kingdom.

Yours is a topsy-turvy reign where we at last see that our human values are shallow and destructive, but that if we deeply desire to be right with you, you will delight us with the joys of your presence.

Oh God who turns my human ideas on their head,

help me to seek to live Jesus' way…

and especially that I may hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for then I will be truly rich.

Amen.

Reflection of the Week - 23rd April 2024

While I claim no expert knowledge when it comes to sheep, I did find myself relating to Jesus in his role as the Good Shepherd in today's gospel (21st April).

Safe Church Screening

It’s nearly 5 years since the introduction of the Working With Childrens Check (WWCC) became a minimum requirement for those with roles of responsibility within the life of the church.

Reflection of the Week - 16th April 2024

Don’t you wonder sometimes how our covenant Lord who is God – Creator, Master, and Teacher, can and does create from nothing and does not need anything or anyone but is helplessly in love with you?
