Reflection of the week

Posted in Faith

I fuss and fret over reduced daylight hours, when my level of activity is curtailed by the late rising of the sun and its early setting.

The Preacher gently admonishes me with a reminder that: “for everything there is a season; a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

I find comfort in the certainty of the cycle of the seasons, as balmy autumn days give way to winter, when the earth rests. My spirit can find respite from the ceaseless search for fulfilment and success.

Prayer

Creator God, I gratefully accept your gift of this Sabbatical, to rest and restore my weary soul. In your name, amen.

It’s unfortunate that we lost the bread and fish ritual meal, because the bread and wine ritual meal didn’t emphasize this idea of surplus: real food that actually fed the poor.

Reflection of the Week - 27 May 2025

No matter the religion or denomination in which we are raised, our spirituality still comes through the first filter of our own life experience. We must begin to be honest about this instead of pretending that any of us are formed exclusively by scriptures or our churches or religious traditions. There is no such thing as an entirely unbiased position. The best we can do is own and be honest about our own filters. God allows and invites us to trust our own experience.
