It’s nearly 5 years since the introduction of the Working With Childrens Check (WWCC) became a minimum requirement for those with roles of responsibility within the life of the church.

We read in newspapers and see on television, stories of people displaced by war, or famine or by the deeds of inhumane Governments. Refugees come from so many different countries and extreme situations. Are they just words in newsprint or remote pictures on TV to us? Have we become immune to their plight?
Jesus became a refugee and had no place to call his own. He knew what it was like to be hounded out of his own country and homeless. He, too, knew what it was like to be a stranger in a strange land and felt the anger and the misunderstanding of the people around Him. He also felt the rejection of those who were close to Him.
Almighty and merciful God, whose own Son became a refugee, have mercy on those who are fleeing from danger, who are homeless and hungry.
May I be inspired to be generous with my resources and my time, so that I may see where I can help and be able to bring those who seek refuge some relief.

My heart and arms need to be open to those who flee to this country. Give of my time and my possession to help those who really require so little. Befriend someone who is lonely and afraid in this, a strange land.
