Acknowledgement
Sometimes acknowledgement can be easy – giving an honest compliment to someone, admitting a minor mistake. But there are also times when it is more difficult – remembering to sincerely thank someone for a generous act, opening up about something personal or confessing a wrongdoing. This edition of New Times looks at how individuals, congregations and faith communities across the Uniting Church SA consider and practise acknowledgement.

Service
John 15:13 says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. ” One of the ways we lay down our lives is through service. In the Uniting Church, we have many opportunities to serve in big and small ways – through demonstrations of kindness, responsibilities within congregations, contributions to social justice efforts, or support for UnitingCare organisations. Acts of service connect us with others, and help us to express God’s love in the world.

Resurrection
Over Lent and Easter, Christians across the world reflect on the new life and hope represented by Christ’s resurrection. We think of these on a personal level, seeing Easter as a time of renewing and deepening faith. In the Uniting Church, we are also reminded of our hopes for the lives of our churches. While many of our congregations age, we continue to see bursts of life within these communities through new projects or members, and new ways to engage in faith. This month, New Times reflects on resurrection, renewal and hope within the life of the Uniting Church in South Australia.

We all experience Christmas differently – some find cause for celebration, while others take time to reflect. For many people the word ‘home’ signifies comfort, belonging, welcome, rest. But for those who face hostility at home or are without a home – those seeking asylum in Australia, or the many sleeping on the streets across our country every night – the word may have negative connotations. In this edition, we explore how individuals and communities in the Uniting Church across South Australia make meaning of the word ‘home.’

Cry out
To ‘cry out’ is to scream or shout aloud, especially in pain or terror. To ‘cry out’ for something is to demand it in an obvious manner. ‘For crying out loud’ is an exclamation of anger or dismay. There are so many people, across the world and in our own backyard, who are crying out in these ways. In April, New Times focuses on justice and God’s constant presence in times of struggle.
