Pancake Day Update 2023

Petrol’s been up to $2.09 a litre! Electricity and gas prices are going through the roof!

Cost of living pressures are squeezing the capacity for people on low to middle incomes to pay for everyday items. Fruit and vegetable prices have skyrocketed. The weekly supermarket bill has seen sharp rises as well and supply chain problems are also driving up costs.

With an inflation rate of 7.8% for the year as reported in the December 2022 quarter, costs are going to continue to rise exponentially.

As we approach Pancake Day 2023 in two weeks’ time, people across the Uniting Church and the wider community have a chance to focus upon these issues. In the UnitingCare SA office we are  mindful of the unprecedented demand that is being experienced by services that are supporting people in such need.

As well as the Emergency Relief Centres benefiting from funds raised through the Pancake Day Appeal, there are also targeted donations to some of the larger UnitingCare organisations. They also work alongside people who are experiencing financial stress on a whole range of fronts.

Those organisations are:

Uniting Communities

Uniting Country SA

UnitingCare Wesley Bowden

UnitingSA.

The services they provide include emergency financial assistance, financial counselling, homelessness support and a range of wellbeing programs for people of all ages. The organisations operate throughout Adelaide and in many regional centres to the north and west of Adelaide.

If you want to get involved in Pancake Day and support any of UnitingCare’s larger organisations, UnitingCare SA will be happy to send you a Pancake Day registration and host pack. Please email Turn on Javascript! or call (08) 8236 4255.

Once registered, donations and funds raised can be sent in by credit card through the secure portal on the Synod website at https://sa.uca.org.au/unitingcare-sa/support-unitingcare/. (Other payment methods are detailed in the registration form.)

We really appreciate the many Uniting Church congregations and other groups that have already registered to hold events to support the Pancake Day Appeal in 2023, and there is room for more support as the need is great.
