A Lenten Pilgrimage to the Heart

The South Australian Council of Churches (SACC) ecumenical Lenten resource for 2018 is available at sacc.asn.au. It has been prepared by a team from the Community for Ecumenical Learning.

Since the first SACC Ecumenical Lenten Study in 1972, thousands have come together in small groups and have come to know one another better. The SACC hopes that Christians from different traditions will continue to come together in 2018 around the 2018 resource, “A Lenten Pilgrimage to the Heart”, and to reflect on how Lent continues to be meaningful in the midst of today’s complexities and challenges.

To assist with future resource preparation, please let the SACC know if you download and/or use the resource by sending an email to Turn on Javascript!

Didn’t read the last “News & notices”? The items below are ones you might want to catch up on.

Easter postcards & posters

The Uniting Church SA Easter campaign has been launched!

This year's postcards and posters feature the words "Do not be fooled, be full of life" in a nod to the fact that Easter Sunday and April's Fool's Day are on the same date in 2018. The back of the postcard includes a quote from Ephesians 3:19. Space is provided on both the postcards and posters for each church's Easter service details.

For more information about the 2018 Easter theme, costs and how to order, please click here or contact the Communications team at Turn on Javascript!

Upcoming ordination and induction services

The ordination of Mark Schultz, Candidate for Minister of the Word, will take place at a service on Monday 12 February, 7pm, at Glenunga Uniting Church.

An induction service for Rev Tony Eldridge will be held at 7pm on Sunday 4 February at Rosefield Uniting Church.

Pastoral Notes

At the start of 2017, a new subscriber list was started for people wishing to receive Pastoral Notes. These emails from the Moderator mainly reflect on the lives and ministry of Uniting Church SA leaders who have recently passed away.

On Friday 19 January, a notice was sent detailing the life and ministry of Rev Jean Stirling who passed away on Wednesday 17 January. A later notice included a correction and details for her funeral service, which was held at Christ Church Wayville on Thursday 25 January. Jean was known for her championing of the role of Deacon in the Uniting Church in Queensland and South Australia. Read the Pastoral Note here.

Two Pastoral Notes were also published in December for Rev Dr Glenn Barnett (read the note here) and Rev Clarence Hore (see the note here).

To be added to the Pastoral Note subscriber list, please email Turn on Javascript!

Intergen team – contact phone number correction

The Uniting Church SA Intergen team gave out postcards last year containing information and contact details for the team. An incorrect phone number extension was used. The team apologises for the confusion.

To contact the Intergen Team, please phone 8236 4243 or email Turn on Javascript!

Did your congregation receive a copy of the new Safe Church poster? They were available for collection at the November Presbytery Synod meeting and are provided free of charge with the intent that all congregations have one prominently displayed.

If your church does not yet have a poster, please email Turn on Javascript! with the name and address to which you would like a poster to be sent.
