New chaplain for Westminster School

On Monday 26 March, Rev Phil Hoffmann was inducted into the role of Chaplain at Westminster School. Westminster Principal Simon Shepherd presented Phil to Rev Sue Ellis, the Uniting Church SA Moderator, to officially induct Phil as the school’s chaplain. Dernancourt Uniting Church celebrates 50 years

On 27 May, Dernancourt Uniting Church will celebrate 50 years of ministry, fellowship and outeach. Dernancourt Uniting Church was South Australia’s first new Uniting Church, and grew from a house church formed in 1968. A new church hall was built and completed in 1969 using voluntary labour.

Throughout the 50 years since its establishment, Dernancourt Uniting Church has provided many opportunities for the local community, such as a carers’ lunch (in association with UnitingCare Wesley Bowden), playgroups for grandparents, Messy Church for families, and recently a cooking program for older men.

SACC general meeting

The next general meeting of the South Australian Council of Churches (SACC) will take place on Saturday 28 April on the train between Adelaide-Gawler-Adelaide, with a brief stop in Gawler at Zion Lutheran Church, as below:

  • On arrival at Gawler Central at 10.17am, those attending will walk to Zion Lutheran Church, 22b Cowan Street.
  • After morning tea (on arrival), there will have time for prayer, brief exchange of stories and very brief
  • All leave Zion, in time to board 11.54am train to Adelaide.

UnitingSA announces new West Lakes development

UnitingSA have just released plans for a $50m development in West Lakes. The five-storey development will incorporate residential aged care, retirement living, retail and office space. The land fronts West Lakes Boulevard and forms part of the transformation of Football Park, being undertaken by Commercial & General. Movie night: Adelaide Christian Singles

Seeds of Hope in Troubled Times: open conversations and retreats

Stillpoint Spirituality and Loyola Ignatian Spirituality will present two retreats and open conversations featuring Margaret Silf. The first retreat will occur at Nunyara on 27-29 April 2018. The second retreat will occur at Sevenhill from 30 April - 2 May, 2018. Download the flyer for more information and registration details.

 

Man What A Meal: men's cooking program

Following the success of the first Man What a Meal program, this free cooking program is being offered again to another group of men over 50. Attendees will learn how to cook a range of simple, healthy and delicious meals over the 5 weeks. The program starts on Saturday 21 April, 10am-12.30pm (includes lunch), and will be held at Dernancourt Uniting Church. The program is funded by the Office of the Ageing, Grants for Seniors. Creative Ageing & Spirituality event

Seniors with Style is an event being organised by Creative Ageing and Spirituality, a new initiative of the Urban Mission Network that seeks to offer support and make connections with older people across the Uniting Church SA and the wider community.

Creative Ageing and Spirituality has just created their own Facebook page to keep people up to date with its activities, as well as an event page for Seniors with Style. This exciting community event will take place on Thursday 12 April on the lawns outside Adelaide University (opposite Scots Uniting Church). This event is also being supported by Splash Adelaide, and there is more information on their website here.
