Pancake Day fundraising & GST

Are you involved with Pancake Day fundraising for UnitingCare? For treasurers, this event can be treated as an “Input Taxed Fundraising Activity” – meaning there is no GST in the pancake price (however, you must not claim back GST on related expenses like disposable plates, barbecue gas, etc). Many supplies, such as pancake mix, are donated or are GST free anyway. For advice about GST, please call Marie-Ann Ellis on 8236 4215.

SAVR (South Australian Volunteers Returned) gathering

SAVR is a collection of people who have returned from an overseas mission and cultural experience. This Sunday 21 February, Matthew Tyne, the manager of UnitingWorld’s Relief and Development team, will speak to the SAVR gathering. The group will also hear from other returned volunteers who will share their experiences in overseas countries and other cultures. If you have experienced other cultures, worked overseas or are interested in hearing about the way these placements affect other people’s lives and faith, please join the SAVR gathering on Sunday 21 February, 2pm, at Pilgrim Uniting Church. More information is available here.

Sally Stamp

After pleading for stamps late last year, we now have an abundance of envelopes with stamps which need to be trimmed. We are looking for one or two persons with some stamp-collecting experience to sort on Monday mornings between 9am and 12 noon, plus some people to trim stamps off the envelopes in their own home. Delivery of envelopes could be arranged. Interested persons can contact Sally Stamp Convenor Maxine Haines via email at Turn on Javascript! or phone 8297 2417 or 0427 972 417.

Stillpoint Lenten resource

Stillpoint Spirituality Centre’s resource “Walking in the Valley of the Shadow” describes well the Lenten journey of Jesus and the disciples. A Lenten “Quiet Day” dwelling on this topic will be held on Monday 29 February and Friday 4 March. It will focus on the “shadow” experiences everyone faces in life, and will invite attendees to explore ways of not only recognising and working through losses, but also looking for resurrections. The resource can be used at home or on a retreat day. Further information is available in the brochure here.

Unique opportunity to walk in Jesus’ steps

Spicer Uniting Church is urgently seeking an actor to take on the role of Jesus for their upcoming “Passion Play”. The actor will be needed on Wednesday 16 March, 9.30am-1pm and Friday 18 March, 6.30-8.30 pm. A small honorarium will be offered. For further information, please contact Marg Just on 8362 4338 or 0417 475 383.

Lent Event – a call to change routine & put faith into action!

While giving up buying lunch, coffee and snacks isn’t the only thing that makes the season of Lent memorable, it’s certainly a disruption to ordinary routine. It’s a reminder of our call to discipleship, which ultimately allows us to grow. Changing routine and gifting funds saved this Lent could help a Zimbabwean family kick-start a small business. Many live on just one meal a day... perspective on giving up snacks! For more information, please visit lentevent.com
