News & Notices – 8 September 2020

Below are the news and notices from congregations, the Synod of South Australia and the wider Uniting Church for the Tuesday 8 September edition of UC e-News

------------------------------------------

Prayer Points for the week

  • All those who put children's safety first in our churches, faith communities, schools and agencies
  • All those who are hurting as Australia enters its first recession in three decades. May we draw on the boundless reserve of God's love to comfort and strengthen us through the hardships ahead, and to ensure support for the vulnerable around us
  • Thanksgiving to God for creation and for being wonderfully made.

2020 World Suicide Prevention Day - R U OK? Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is an international awareness day observed on 10th September each year to provide a focus for dedicated action to prevent suicide.

Also 10th September is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, ‘Are you OK?’ if someone in your world is struggling with life's ups and downs.

The message for R U OK? Day 2020 is: 'There’s more to say after RU OK?’ 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us.

UCA Regulations Review survey closing soon

UCA Assembly General Secretary Colleen Geyer is asking church members to respond to a survey on UCA Church Regulations by 13th September. The Assembly Standing Committee believes the time is right to review the Regulations, particularly whether they reflect the current organisational realities and hold appropriately to the Constitution and Basis of Union. Disability Royal Commission Survey – Closes 15 September

Ministers, chairs and secretaries of congregations are reminded to complete the survey for the Uniting Church’s Disability Royal Commission National Task Group by 15 September.

This very important feedback from congregations will help to inform the Church’s communication with the Disability Royal Commission. In addition, it will assist the Church as it considers its engagement with people with disability.
