Below are the news and notices from congregations, the SA Synod and the wider Uniting Church submitted for the Wednesday 5 June edition of UC e-News.

------------------------------------------

Prayer Points for the week

  • We pray for every congregation and faith community within the Uniting Church to discern wisely on their future Presbytery needs. That they follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit and be open to what God is doing in and through the Presbytery restructure.
  • Today, on World Environment Day, we contemplate our personal and communal action towards preserving the environment

World Environment Day
Today is World Environment Day, a United Nations event designed to raise awareness of environmental issues around the world. The theme for 2019 is Air Pollution — a call to action to combat one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. Read more on the Uniting Earth Facebook page here.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: 2 – 9 June 2019

In this coming week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the theme is “Justice and only justice, you shall pursue” . The following reflection is from the South Australian Council of Churches:

Let us be reminded again of God’s call to each of us. Jesus calls us to open our minds to understand the Scriptures, to bring good news to the poor, and sight to the those who do not understand. As Australians, across this vast land, as churches together, what do we offer as a collective voice? How do we use this voice for the benefit and justice and peace-making in our local communities, wider Australian society and in international spaces?
Resources are available from the National Council of Churches website and can be viewed here.

The power of choice to lift up others

If you call Australia home, you have access to choices that millions of people around the world don’t: clean water to drink, knowledge about germs and illness, a toilet close to home. Every second of every day, one person dies due to complications related to dirty water.

They don’t need to. Together with UnitingWorld, use the power of your choice to give life to others, here.
