News & Notices – 4 August 2020

Below are the news and notices from congregations, the Synod of South Australia and the wider Uniting Church for the Tuesday 4 August edition of UC e-News

------------------------------------------

Prayer Points for the week

  • Our Church's community service agencies, particularly in aged care, as they respond to the new wave of COVID-19 cases in Victoria. This prayer for people in lockdown areas was written by Assembly theologian-in-residence Rev Dr Ji Zhang.
  • For all leaders and officials who are making vital decisions and who are under such enormous pressure. May God guide their hand so that they make decisions based on both truth and love.
  • Congregations and Church Councils who are making decisions that will affect so many of your people and their fellowship together. May God give them wisdom on how to best listen to governing authorities and to respect the directions that are given, while still caring for one another.

COVID-19 Update

Last week the South Australian Premier placed a cap on weddings and funerals of 100 which came into effect on Tuesday, July 28th, 2020.

Further information from the State Government has now been received advising that this cap does not apply to church services at the present time.

NYALC cancelled

The National Young Adult Leader Conference (NYALC) which was due to be held in January 2021 has been cancelled. NYALC draws key young adult leaders from across Australia from many diverse cultural groups from within the Uniting Church in Australia. The Conference aims to encourage, bless, grow and empower UCA young adult leaders in their ministry and faith.

Uniting Church President Dr Deidre Palmer wrote a letter to advise that due to COVID-19, the volatility of our current health situation in Australia and the necessary community safety measures, the Assembly is cancelling the Young Adult Leaders Conference. The President announced that she would be hosting a series of seven online ‘roundtable’ gatherings in the next six months. If you are a young adult or are involved in encouraging young adults in church life, you can sign up by emailing Deidre at Turn on Javascript!. Read the letter regarding the cancellation of NYALC here.

Engage Together - intergenerational worship resource ideas for Aug-Sept

Want to know how to shape intergenerational worship? Then this is the resource for you!

Edited and updated from 2017, to assist and inspire churches to adapt elements of a worship liturgy (such as call to worship, prayers, music and Bible readings) to be more intergenerational during the season after Pentecost (Aug - Sept 2020). Whilst based on Lectionary readings, the ideas can be adapted to suit any Bible/theme focus.

Written and produced in partnership across three Uniting Church Synods, including SA’s Intergenerational Team. Find out more here: https://sa.uca.org.au/intergen/church-resources/all-age-worship/
