Below are the news and notices from congregations, the Synod of South Australia and the wider Uniting Church for Tuesday, 31st May 2022 edition of UC e-News

------------------------------------------

Prayer Points

We pray:

  • For the forthcoming Synod Meeting and for our leaders and members of Synod as we prepare to gather to share in celebrating and discerning our future
  • For the on-going journey of healing, reconciliation and relationship between First and Second Peoples in Australia
  • For the incoming Australian Government and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; that those who represent us will work to build communities of care and compassion where all belong and may flourish.

Synod 2022

The Synod ’22 page of the main Uniting Church website has been updated with further reports which are now available for viewing. We encourage you to continue to check the website as new information and reports are being uploaded as they are received and available. This is the link: https://sa.uca.org.au/about-us/synod-meetings/

There are vacancies occurring on some Synod committees, councils or boards. Some of these are filled by appointment and some are filled by a nomination/election process. With due attention to Synod by-laws, members of Synod are invited to submit nominations for vacant positions. This year, nominations will close at the end of the online day of our meeting, Saturday 18th June at 4:30pm.

However, it is preferred that nominations are received prior to the meeting of the Synod. That way, the Business Committee can collate the nominations, ensure that we have received an adequate number of nominations from across the diversity of the church, and then send information to members of Synod about the nominees. To assist the nomination process, please submit nominations by Friday 3rd June 2022. All information about the nomination process is currently available on the Synod website.

Please pray for our leaders and members of Synod as we prepare to gather to share in celebrating and discerning our future.

Worship Resources for Pentecost Sunday and World Environment Day

As we approach Pentecost Sunday on the 5th of June 2022, which coincides with World Environment Day, Assembly Being a Multicultural Church Circle is preparing a short video with a bible reading, Psalm 104: 30 (“When you send forth your spirit they are created and you renew the face of the ground”), and a short prayer (Come Holy Spirit, renew the face of the earth and all creation) in diverse languages for worship services at local congregations and faith communities. The video will be available to download next week on the National News and Assembly website here

WA Synod offers a worship resource for Pentecost Sunday including a sermon reflection and prayers. You can download at this link: https://ecochurcheswa.net/worship-resources-2/

Climate Report: ‘They Shall Inherit the Earth’

A new Climate Report entitled They Shall Inherit the Earth for a new conversation about climate change in Christian communities is available now.

An essential report for all those involved in Church leadership, this study and its findings show:

  • How Christians aged 18-40 years are engaging with climate change
  • What they think about the role of the Church in taking action
  • The attitudes and practices of church leaders towards this issue
  • How we can take steps to heal division and, together, bring a voice of hope.
