What is our family of faith singing? Join the CMLA for an afternoon in which six communities share songs that they sing in worship – songs they love to sing, songs that may be seen as an unusual choice to sing, and songs that are new to them. Bring your musicians and worship teams or just come along if you love to sing and learn new songs. Sunday, 4 August, 3:00-5:00pm at Brougham Place Uniting Church (basement). Entry is free. Gold coin donation for afternoon tea. Email Turn on Javascript! for more information.
‘No faith in coal’: 150 religious leaders urge PM to show moral leadership
More than 150 religious leaders from across Australia have issued an open letter calling on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to recognise Australia’s moral responsibility to avoid climate catastrophe and halt all new coal and gas projects.
The religious leaders span the spectrum of faiths and include the heads of the National Council of Churches, Muslims Australia, the Uniting Church in Australia and the Federation of Australian Buddhist Councils as well as the Grand Mufti of Australia, Bishops, senior Rabbis and leading theologians.
The letter was organised by Australian Religious Response to Climate Change (ARRCC).
The second Australian National Outlook report was launched in Sydney last week. The report presented two future outlooks for Australia by 2060 – one of slow decline, if no action on the most significant economic, social and environmental challenges is taken; the other, a positive vision for the future, based on environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive growth.
UnitingCare Australia was one of more than 50 member organisations that worked alongside the CSIRO and NAB to develop the report. Access the report on the CSIRO website here.
