Prayer Points for the week

  • We pray for refugees and those seeking asylum. We pray for God’s blessing over those separated from loved ones and those who have been exiled from their homes. We pray for healing, strength and hope for the future.
  • Join us in praying for the upcoming Presbytery and Synod meeting, for the leading of the Holy Spirit in decision making and the future direction of God’s church
  • A prayer of thanks for the individuals honoured as part of the Queen’s birthday celebrations. For their work and dedication in our church and the wider community.

 

Refugee Week


For a list of events occurring as part of Refugee Week, between June 16-22 visit the Refugee Council website here. Other resources and information are also available via the Refugee Council of Australia website here.

Andrew McDonough, Australian author and illustrator wants to get his latest story 'Jesus was a Refugee' into the hands of as many churches and organisations as possible. It includes the digital story for sharing in Church and activity sheets. This is normally available for $14.95, but as it is such an important issue for our country, Lost Sheep is giving this away for free. Click here.

Induction of Rev Amel Manyon

On Sunday 7 July, at 4pm, Rev Amel Manyon will be inducted as the Dernancourt Uniting Church minister. The induction of Amel will be celebrated with a shared dinner following the service.

The Moderator, Rev Sue Ellis will preach. All are welcome to attend and more information can be obtained from the Dernancourt UC office between the following hours:  Tues & Thurs 10.00am - 12.00 noon by telephoning (08) 8369 0802.

President’s conference – registration closing 30 June

'For the Whole of Creation' President's conference will occur in Fiji from 13-17 July, 2019. Registrations for this event will close on June 30. For more information and to register, visit the website here.

Chaplain training opportunity in Burra for Disaster and Recovery Ministries

If you live somewhere around the mid-north of our state, if you have a listening ear and are prepared to offer a ministry of presence, care and comfort to people affected in times of great need, you are invited to be trained as a chaplain for Disaster and Recovery Ministries SA. This training will take place in Burra on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July from 11.00am – 5.00pm and will be part of an ecumenical weekend planned for the area, including a worship service on Sunday morning. Pilgrim Uniting Church in the media

Pilgrim Uniting Church and Rev Sandy Boyce shared their proposed idea to offer a safe place for young people under 18 who are sleeping rough, on 'code red' and 'code blue' days (extreme heat, extreme cold) to The Advertiser this week (Tuesday 18 June). Sandy says "the idea is in its genesis (so not quite as definite as the article suggests), and would be a collaboration with BaptistCare and Pilgrim Church." Centre for Music, Liturgy and the Arts

The June newsletter from the Centre for Music, Liturgy and the Arts includes lots of events and resourcing information including a Taize Pilgrimage from 5-18 July, a Sunday music afternoon at Brougham Place UC on Sunday 4 August.

A 3 day workshop ‘Conversations and Explorations with Friends by the Sea’ which explores worship with leaders from NZ and interstate, including Mark Pierson, Malcolm Gordon, Libby Byrne and Charissa Suli from October 8-10 at St Andrews by the Sea, Glenelg. Finally, on 29 October the CMLA will run an Advent and Christmas Resource Showcase @ Morialta Uniting Church. Find out more in the June newsletter here.

Australian Hymn book giveaway

Malvern UC has 31 copies of Australian Hymn Book Melody Line edition in good condition, and available to give away to any persons or groups who can use them. Contact Malvern UC office on 8271 6817 or Geoff Tully on 0418 804 162.

SACOSS Treasurer’s breakfast

Every year for the past 9 years the South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) has hosted a Post-Budget Breakfast with the Treasurer. This is an exclusive member-only event allows for those attending to hear from the Treasurer himself. Awareness about the State Budget is crucial for the church community and for vulnerable and disadvantaged South Australians. This event provides an opportunity to hear the Treasurer speak directly to the community services sector about the State Budget, and provides a chance to put your own questions to them. The event occurs on Tuesday 25 June at 7.30am (7am arrival) at the Adelaide Pavilion, corner of South Terrace and Peacock Road, Adelaide. Read more here.

Deadline change for New Times

The copy and advertising deadline for the New Times August/September edition has been brought forward by two weeks. The new deadline is Friday, 5 July rather than the originally advertised date of Friday 19 July.

Volunteers needed for Red Dove Café at the Royal Adelaide Show

The Royal Adelaide show is only a short 10 weeks away and the Red Dove Café is once again seeking helpers to assist with preparing and serving food and beverages. The Show dates are 30 August to 8 September, but a small number of helpers will be required for pre-Show opening on Wednesday, 28 and Thursday, 29 August. To run smoothly, the café needs 70-80 people per day. The shifts vary and can start as early as 6:00am and finish as late as 8:30pm. Volunteers will receive an entry ticket and a meal allowance.
