News & Notices – 14 June 2022

Below are the news and notices from congregations, the Synod of South Australia and the wider Uniting Church for Tuesday, 14th June 2022 edition of UC e-News

------------------------------------------

Prayer Points

We pray:

  • For our leaders and members of Synod as we prepare to gather to share in celebrating and discerning our future
  • For the resources needed and changed attitudes so that all countries will welcome refugees
  • For the protection of our environment for the good of all.

Synod 2022

Due to a number of factors (workload pressures, personnel issues, changing COVID restrictions), the online portion of the Synod meeting to be held on Saturday 18th June has been cancelled.

We apologise for the late notice, but hope that members will receive the news of a free Saturday with grace!

Unfortunately, this means that the report electives which were the main focus of the online day will not be held. We encourage Synod members to make contact with report authors to ask any questions, and to seek out conversations about reports at the Synod meeting on 24th and 25th June.

The Synod ’22 page of the main Uniting Church website has been further updated with reports, proposals and two videos which are now available for viewing. We encourage you to continue to check the website as new information is being uploaded on a regular basis. This is the link: https://sa.uca.org.au/about-us/synod-meetings/

There are vacancies occurring on some Synod committees, councils or boards. Some of these are filled by appointment and some are filled by a nomination/election process. With due attention to Synod by-laws, members of Synod are invited to submit nominations for vacant positions. This year, nominations will close on Saturday 18th June at 4:30pm.

It is preferred that nominations are received as soon as possible so that the Business Committee can collate the nominations, ensure that we have received an adequate number of nominations from across the diversity of the church, and then send information to members of Synod about the nominees. All information about the nomination process is currently available on the Synod website.

Please pray for our leaders and members of Synod as we prepare to gather to share in celebrating and discerning our future.

Climate Report: ‘They Shall Inherit the Earth’

A new Climate Report entitled They Shall Inherit the Earth for a new conversation about climate change in Christian communities is available now.

An essential report for all those involved in Church leadership, this study and its findings show:

  • How Christians aged 18-40 years are engaging with climate change
  • What they think about the role of the Church in taking action
  • The attitudes and practices of church leaders towards this issue
  • How we can take steps to heal division and, together, bring a voice of hope.

2022 Uniting Foundation Grant Round Opens

Congregations, Faith Communities and individuals are invited to apply for funding to assist with missional projects which will build vibrant church communities leading the Church into the future.

The projects need to be able to demonstrate how the missional effectiveness of the applying body will be enhanced. The amount of available funds impacts the Committee’s ability to fund projects. Accordingly, applications need to meet the established criteria. The applying body’s Mission and Service Fund contribution status is also considered when assessing applications.

Property upgrade and maintenance are not eligible for Uniting Foundation funding. An applicant cannot have more than one concurrent active grant.

Please note. Applications close 30th July 2022.

Application forms, eligibility criteria and other related information can be located at

https://sa.uca.org.au/uniting-foundation/applying-for-a-grant
