The Mission and Leadership Development (MLD) Board has commissioned a Review of Missional Needs and Opportunities across the Synod. The Review will provide recommendations that are courageous and imaginative, yet realistic, relating to:

  • Missional priorities for the Synod in our new contexts
  • Creative options for how those priorities might be resourced by the MLD
  • Identification of factors that may pose a threat to their fulfilment.

The Review of Missional Needs and Opportunities is being undertaken by a team of researchers from AngelWings Ltd, a New Zealand organisation offering high-quality research and bespoke educational resources. Three researchers will deliver on different strands of this Review of Missional Needs and Opportunities:

  • Steve Taylor is a researcher and educator who brings skills in missiology, empirical research and complex research project management
  • Kayli Taylor is a writer, researcher, and historian who brings unique skills in engaging with emerging leaders and strong communication expertise (in both online and offline spaces)
  • Lynne Taylor is researcher and lecturer who brings unique skills in pastoral theology, community demographics and research design.

Each researcher has had experience of living in Adelaide and being among the Uniting Church in South Australia.

Over 13 weeks, from the start of May through to the end of July, the Review will offer many different ways to engage. Every person who wishes can have input:

  • Synod wide online survey of missional needs
  • Multiple Focus Groups with Presbyteries, Synod and United Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC)
  • 1-1 conversations with existing Mission Resourcing staff
  • 1-1 conversations investigating mission resourcing beyond South Australia
  • Small Group and Elective engagement at the June Synod Meeting
  • Lunch conversations during the June Synod Meeting
  • Online survey of how ministers stay up-to-date in mission thinking
  • Research and analysis of resourcing being currently promoted in local congregations.
