Awash with Prayer Campaign

Gracious and loving God,

You bring water to the wilderness and life giving streams to the desert.

We give you thanks for your living water that nourishes and sustains us; water in abundance that quenches our thirst and brings life to our world; water with power to bring life.

In this land of droughts and flooding rains, water can also bring devastation and destruction. At this time, we give thanks for those who work tirelessly to help people in need, offering care and compassion, along with practical help. We give thanks for the men and women of our emergency services, who risk their lives to save others. We give thanks for the volunteers at the relief centres, giving freely of their time and experience to offer comfort and compassion in Your name. We give thanks for preparations made, and workers seeking to mitigate the effects of the flood.

In this Advent week, we are watching and waiting, alert to the signs of your presence with us and preparing to celebrate your coming as a baby in a manger and anticipating your coming again to bring fullness of life. We think of those who are watching and waiting for flood waters to rise, or recede. We pray for those who are making preparations for what might be to come.

In all that is happening in the Riverland communities, may we notice and recognise the moments of unexpected joy, and may they give us the heart to carry on, doing Your work and spreading Your news of great joy to all.

We pray these prayers in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
