History of KCO

The Uniting Church SA’s Children’s Ministry Task Group first developed this event in 1978. We celebrated the 30th Anniversary in 2008! The name of the Camp was changed in 1995 to KUCA Camp Out (KCO) to bring it under the umbrella of the national children's ministry network within the Uniting Church of Australia. The first KCO was held during the International Year of the Child, with 178 children attending. The following year resulted in numbers being doubled and the event grew to such an extent that the Adelaide event has had over 3,200 children and leaders attending, including over 200 staff and volunteers.

This event is now well established in the life of the Uniting Church calendar in South Australia and has matured into an significant event.

There are now KCOs held in most states in Australia each year (Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia).

There are also regional KCOs in South Australia an overnight camp held at Tumby Bay and a day event at Naracoorte.
