Annual Leave Policy

Policy Statement

All employees of Uniting Church SA will be entitled to four (4) weeks of paid annual leave for each full year of service as prescribed by the National Employment Standards (‘NES’) of the  Fair Work Act 2009.

Entitlement to paid annual leave accrues progressively during a year of service according to the employee’s ordinary hours of work and accumulates from year to year.  Entitlements can be taken in accordance with this policy during the first year of service, and as the entitlements become available.

Applications for annual leave must be made on the appropriate Leave Application Form by employees at least one month prior to the proposed date of commencement of leave where possible and must be approved by employee’s immediate manager/supervisor prior to the commencement of leave.

There is no minimum requirement for the number of leave hours taken at any one time.

Annual leave must be taken at a mutually agreeable time between the employee and their manager/supervisor and should ordinarily be taken within 12 months of becoming due.

Annual leave may be required to be taken at a shut-down period (for example between Christmas and New Year) or for other reasonable reasons as notified by Uniting Church SA.

Payment for annual leave, and leave loading if applicable, will be in accordance with the relevant Award or terms and conditions of employment, as determined by the NES of Fair Work Act 2009.

Employees should plan to use their annual leave entitlement allocation per year of service, that is, an employee working for a full year should take four (4) weeks of annual leave between their employment anniversary dates.

Employees should not take leave greater than their entitlement unless special circumstances exist and permission is granted by their immediate manager/supervisor.

Accumulation of Leave

  •  Employees who have completed less than five (5) years of continuous service may carry over no more than twenty days (20) (150 hours for 1.0 FTE, pro rata for part time employees) of accumulated annual leave , past their employment anniversary date.
  •  Employees who have completed more than five (5) years of continuous service may carry over no more than a maximum of thirty (30) days (225 hours 1.0 FTE or pro rata for part time employees) of accumulated leave, past their employment anniversary date.
