Shaping the Future Priorities of the Synod of SA 2021-2025

Synod Strategy and Planning – Mission and Property Questionnaire Update

The Synod Strategy and Planning – Mission and Property working group has been working on the next steps in the project requested by the meeting of the Synod in June 2022 in relation to developing a draft property strategy to take to the next meeting of the Synod in June 2023.

One of the steps in the process is gathering data or information about our congregations.

To help us gather this data, a questionnaire has been sent to each congregation.

Thank you to those congregations who have completed the questionnaire.

This questionnaire is intended to help provide an indicator of missional viability. Hopefully answering these questions will lead to reflection on your mission and ministry. We encourage conversations at Church Council, with your Congregation and with your Presbytery.

The questionnaire has been sent to Church Council Chairpersons, Secretaries and Ministers in congregations. Please ensure only one questionnaire is completed for your congregation.

To assist with completion of the questionnaire you can access a PDF version of the questions to use as a guide and available at this link.

If you need help, or clarification, please contact either Rev Philip Gardner or Rev Sue Page via email: Turn on Javascript! or phone 82354200.

Please complete the questionnaire by 31st January 2023

In 2020 the Uniting Church Synod of SA embarked on a journey to identify its key missional priorities and directions for the next 3-5 years.

As the South Australian Synod we are committed to being the transforming presence of God, committed to discipling and growing the Church, advocating for justice in the world, being thriving communities of faith, gathering to hear Jesus' message to us and equipping ourselves to respond.

Shaping the Future Strategic Priorities holds us together and connects us to the common purpose of being the Church.

Collaboratively we are all the Synod and there is a place for each one of us. Shaping the Future will work best if we are in conversation, if we can imagine ourselves as an effective team, if we are committed to a common purpose.

To help the church to engage with the priorities we have developed an A3 poster which sets out how to use the ‘wheel’ and how to fill in the accompanying ‘action plan.’

The following congregations have submitted their Action Plans:

Survey 2020

We thank all of those that responded to our recent Strategic Plan Survey and are pleased to provide a summary of the results which can be downloaded here.

For those respondents to the survey that wished to be contacted for a further conversation, we invite you to email Turn on Javascript! if you would like to provide further feedback to the development of the plan.

Over the coming months we will be compiling all of the feedback as we seek to identify and understand the key themes that will form the basis of the next Synod of South Australia Strategic Plan.

Working Group

A Working Group has been formed and is intentionally seeking to explore where you believe God is calling the Synod to give emphasis to its life and witness at this time.

The Working Group members are:

  • Rev Andrew Robertson
  • Rev Felicity Amery
  • Rev Sue Page
  • Tracey Bost
  • Moderator Bronte Wilson
  • Ashlee Littleford
  • Rev Dr Ian Price
  • Rev Nick Patselis
  • Leanne Davis
  • Bridget Ransome.

Please continue to pray for the Uniting Church, its leaders and its activity. Please pray for the Working Group as we listen to God and to the church and prepare some recommendations for the meeting of our Synod in February 2021.

Blessings,
