Support for Ben Yengi and Kajokeji Project in South Sudan – more information

Many Uniting Church members will know of Ben Yengi OAM one of Australia’s first Sudanese refugees. Ben returned to South Sudan in 2007 to rebuild the village he fled in 1970 during the country’s first civil war. He is in the process of building a hospital, school and church, and establishing sustainable farming practices.

Ben’s efforts so far have resulted in a much improved situation for the village. However, there is still more to be done! In the past, Uniting Church SA members and friends have been generous in their support of this project. Ben is now asking for further assistance, particularly to cover the materials needed to complete the village’s nursery school.

A video about the project is now available on YouTube and can be shared via email or in church services.

For more information about this project and how to offer support, please contact Doris Henderson (Prospect Road Uniting Church) via email at Turn on Javascript!  or phone 0409 671 031.

Mental health resource now available

The new Uniting Church SA mental health resource, “Caring for community”, is now available to download here.

The resource was officially launched on Tuesday 4 October at an event and training day held at The Corner Uniting Church. Read more about the resource and launch event here.

2016 Christmas postcards

Orders are open for the 2016 Christmas postcard, which is centred on John 10:10b - "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full". Read more about this year's theme and design here.

The Uniting Church SA Christmas postcards provide an opportunity for congregations to invite those in the wider community to Christmas services and events.

In past years, the Communications team has only accepted orders of over 1,000 postcards - but that has changed this year! Small congregations and faith communities who require fewer than 1,000 postcards are now able to place orders, too. Posters with this year's theme and design are also available to order. The order form is available online here.

Orders must be placed by Wednesday 19 October.

For more information, please click here or contact the Communications team at Turn on Javascript!

Didn’t read last week’s “News & notices”? The items below are ones you might want to catch up on.

New police check forms

All congregations and faith communities are asked to please ensure they are using the latest police check form, available on the Uniting Church SA website here.

It would appear some congregations have a stock of outdated police check forms, which can no longer be accepted after 30 September. If these outdated forms are sent they will be returned to applicants for resubmission.

It is recommended that forms be printed directly from the Uniting Church SA website as required.

Please direct any queries to Peter Harbison on 8236 4282.

Brougham Place forum postponed

The nuclear waste forum due to be held at Brougham Place Uniting Church on the evening of Wednesday 28 September was postponed due to weather and blackout issues. More information on a new date for the forum will be provided through UC e-News and the Facebook event page.
