Have you checked out the Uniting Church in Australia Assembly’s Vimeo account? Over the past week, Assembly uploaded three new videos to Vimeo on the topics of climate justice, nuclear disarmament and gender equality. The nuclear disarmament video features reflections and stories from Rev Denise Champion (pictured), and references the broader Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress’ thinking on nuclear waste.

 

“Yes I can”, Paralympics and the positivity myth

At the 2016 Australasian Religious Press Association conference, theologian Shane Clifton spoke on the topic of the recent BBC4 ad for the Paralympics and the “positivity myth” – points that are also discussed in this blog post. Shane looks at the success of the wildly popular ad, and points out a number of issues with the way it presents disability. He approaches this topic from his lived experience as a quadriplegic (C5 incomplete). This post provides a real insight into Shane’s humour, experiences and study.
