Worship Times
10am every Sunday. Children join in worship with the adults, with children's activities when possible.
Wednesdays 12 to 2 pm: The church is open as a quiet space for Prayer or Meditation.
About Us
We are a community of people seeking to follow Jesus, and God's call to live with love, grace and hope in the world. We believe that we are able to offer to our community a caring, warm, inclusive friendship in which pastoral care is of high priority.
Groups and activities include Bible Study & Discussion Groups, Adult Fellowship, an after church Coffee Group, and 'Uniting BBQs' meeting for Sunday lunch and fellowship from time to time. We offer Home Communion for those unable to attend services. The church hosts concerts and history tours for the community.
We also support the school Chaplains prayerfully & financially.
The congregation dates from 1844 and the Heritage-listed St. Andrews Church building from 1848, the oldest Presbyterian or Uniting Church building in the state still functioning as a church. It has become an icon of Strathalbyn, now floodlit at night by the Alexandrina Council. However, 178 years of weather and time have required extensive renovation and the congregation is now engaging with the community in fundraising for that. So far over $500,000 has been raised from donations, fundraising events, grants and bequests. We have spent over $250,000 on a Structural survey of the whole building; making the front Spire safe; roof, gutters & masonry on the western end of the church, renovating the interior of the Vestry; cleaning the Clock Tower Bell; and improving ground level drainage from the gutter downpipes. The next tasks are roof, gutters and masonry on the north-east corner of the church and new brick paving all around the building. The Clock Tower and the interior of the church will be a later projects.
St Andrews Church overlooks the Angas River and the town's Memorial Gardens, and is an ideal setting for weddings. It is also available for funerals, concerts and other events. St Andrews Hall is available for functions and community groups. For bookings, do call 0403 270 506.
