Uniting Church SA to build on Mission and Ministry

15 Aug 2016

In 2017, Uniting Church SA will launch a new ministry centre, Mission and Leadership Development (MLD).The new ministry centre will bring together Mission Resourcing and the Uniting College for Leadership & Theology, and their respective councils', the Interim Mission Council and the Leadership Development Council.

This newly formed ministry centre is an outcome of a Leadership Development Council Review process, with the formation of the new ministry centre approved by Standing Committee in July with work already underway to progress the formation.

There are also plans underway to establish a MLD Board (the Board will report the the Standing Committee), with membership to be addressed through an election process at the November Presbytery and Synod Meeting.

The exciting new ministry centre also brings about staff changes and a new position. The Principal of Uniting College for Leadership & Theology, Rev Prof Andrew Dutney will also be the Executive Officer, Mission Leadership and Development. Andrew will report and take direction from the MLD Board. The Executive Officer will also be responsible for the strategic leadership, financial and staffing management of the MLD ministry centre.

The new position of Executive Director, Mission will be undertaken by Rev Dr Amelia Koh-Butler, who currently serves as Executive Officer, Mission Resourcing. Amelia’s new role will include ongoing exercise of strategic leadership, and financial and staffing management with the Mission Resourcing staff who merge into the MLD ministry centre.

A new role has been created to support Rev Prof Andrew Dutney in the role of Principal and Executive Officer. The role of Vice Principal will support Andrew and assist Andrew as a key leader within the MLD ministry centre.

It is anticipated these changes will strengthen the life of congregations, providing a more efficient and coordinated approach to educating and equipping congregations for mission and ministry. The Uniting Church SA seeks to be a growing church and as such, the Church wants to maximise its resources in education and mission for the sake of supporting the local church.

More information about the MLD ministry centre will continue to be shared in the lead up to the November meeting of the Presbytery and Synod, to be held 3-5 November, 2016.
