Ash Wednesday Lament for Violence
Unley Uniting Church
187 Unley Road. Unley
14 February 2024 11:00am - 12:00pm
Unley Uniting again is hosting a service of Lament to be held on Wednesday 14th February starting at 11.00am. The use of violence causes untold suffering around the world. All forms need to be addressed to end innocent suffering. Perpetrators cannot justify the use of violence to advance their purposes.
This service provides an opportunity to lament and grieve for victims as well as to acknowledge that all of us may be tempted to resort to violence. We will be reminded as well of the liberating potential of Jesus' death and resurrection to set people free from tombs of despair.
The event includes an Ash Wednesday liturgy which invites participants to mark the beginning of Lent with an imposition of ashes and the sign of the cross. This event will endeavour to use language which makes sense to non-church goers. The service will be led by the Revs Jonathan Barker and Richard Telfer.
