Australian launch of the film 'The People’s Patriarch,' Reflections with Patriarch Michel Sabbah
4 March 2021 7:00pm - 9:00pm
This documentary screening will be followed by an open discussion with His Eminence Patriarch (Emeritus) Michel Sabbah and the film’s director, Mohammed Alatar, and producer, Lily Habash. Moderated by Ursula Stephens, former Senator and current CEO of Catholic Social Services Australia.
Patriarch (Emeritus) Michel Sabbah: An Arab, Palestinian and Christian believer from Nazareth.
In 1987 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, the first Arab Patriarch to hold the office in the Catholic Church's history. His work marked significant milestones in the struggle against injustice and oppression to bring peace to the country of the Prince of Peace. The film is a humble contribution to honour the Patriarch and shed light on some crucial moments in his life, his thoughts, and his constant obsession with the consolidation of love, justice, and peace.
The event is co-sponsored by the Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre in Jerusalem , Palestine Israel Ecumenical Network (PIEN) in Australia and the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN).
