Event details

We are privileged to have an exhibition in Pilgrim Uniting Church of works by prominent artist Helen Sheriff in the month of February.
The exhibition is titled ‘People’.
Helen Sherriff's 'People' exhibition shows a selection of paintings from 1990 to the present, depicting people she has met, as well as portrayals of imagined Biblical characters. Historical figures are seen through twenty first century eyes and present day people from a faith perspective. The heritage of Christian art has been an inspiration and a challenge. References to classical art from icons to the work of Albrecht Durer can be seen, but often traditional perspectives are challenged, as a female point of view brings to light previously disregarded information.
Media in this exhibition of more than 20 works include acrylic and oil painting on canvas and wood, textiles, collage and mosaics.

About Helen Sherriff.
Helen is an experienced, award winning artist who graduated with Honours in Visual Art (University of South Australia, 2013). However, her art career began as early as 1969 as a commercial artist. Art teaching, community art work, solo and group exhibitions followed. Her techniques and traditions include painting, woodcarving, textiles, mosaics and iconography. Helen says, “I often use old, even broken things, repurposed and redirected, as lives can be. The original brokenness works alongside the newness, adding strength. My art making has helped me to see how spiritual meaning is encased in the material world.”
Come along and be inspired by Helen’s beautiful, thought provoking work.
