Event details
Kamishibai ("paper theatre") is a time-honoured Japanese dramatic art that gave rise to the modern pop culture phenomena of manga and anime. Right here in South Australia, the one and only kamishibai master in Adelaide has made it his mission to develop this artform for cross-cultural audiences of all ages.
Arts by the Sea is proud to host Munetaka Umehara who will present a whimsical tale spun from the real-life adventures of a man who wished to sail around the world on his own vessel. This charming chronicle comes from the unusual perspective of a little bird who notices the man building a yacht in his backyard. With original handcrafted scenery and live music on traditional instruments, this unique performance contains many layers that will enchant viewers of all ages and offer an authentic glimpse into another culture across the seas.
Free admission for children under 12 with paying adults. Ticket sales help Community Aid to assist those affected by poverty and homelessness in southwest Adelaide. Cost $5-$10 per adult.
