Hobbies and Collectables Display

A hobbies and collectables display was held at the Jamestown Uniting Church hall on the weekend of April 8th, 9th and 10th. The display was an outstanding success due to the overwhelming support of the local community members who displayed their very diverse collections.

Approximately 700 adults walked through the display of vintage cars, quilting, cross stitch, embroidery, money notes from around the world, a beautiful doll over 100 years old, sewing machines, quilling, working model tractors, over 200 matchbox type cars, trucks and vans; metalwork, woodwork, frogs, wedge wood, musical instruments, bears, a carousel of miniature dunnies with humorous effects, and much, much more.

A free “Guess the Mystery Items” competition was held and won by an Encounter Bay visitor, Mr. L. Woolston who correctly identified five of the nine mystery items on display. He has won a weekend for two in a luxury holiday home on the Marina in Wallaroo.

For those itching to know what the items were, the answers are as follows:- a tyre changer; tow bar hitch; world war I oil can for a Vicker machine gun; theramin; accessory for flout level for engine oil T Ford Moline Tractor; starting cartridge for a Canberra Bomber; general Grant Tank 75mm gun gyro stabiliser to keep gun level when travelling; tea cup holder; “Ecivda” is “Advice” spelt backwards and this is the clue to reading the coded embroidery message. Mr. Woolston did very well identifying five of these unusual items!

After visiting the display, visitors were treated to a cuppa and home-made biscuits, and for those who were hungry, a deluxe sausage sizzle.

The Jamestown Uniting Church wishes to thank all who participated or helped in any way, but especially  Malcolm and Margaret Sparks for their idea, organisation, commitment and enthusiasm.
