South Australians honoured for their work with church and community this Australia Day

This Australia Day there were four South Australians recognised with Australia Day Honours. These four South Australians joined another 16 Uniting Church members, including past Uniting Church President and General Secretary, Rev Gregor Henderson who have been recognised for their work in the Uniting Church. We congratulate the recipients and take the opportunity to thank them for their ongoing work and support of church and community.

MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

Dr David Lockhart HILLIARD

For service to education through the study of the history of religion.

Member, History Committee, St Aloysius College, Adelaide, 1998-2000.
Member, History Committee, Blessed Sacrament Congregation, Melbourne, 2002-2005.
Secretary, Adelaide Theological Circle, 2000.
Volunteer assistance to: Adelaide Theological Library, since 2004;
Adelaide Catholic Archdiocesan Archives, since 2006; Uniting Church History Centre, Adelaide, since 2009 and Anglicare, 2006-2008.

Mrs Margaret Claire MARTLEW

For service to the communities of Port Elliot and Victor Harbor.

Port Elliot Representative, South Coast Christian Community Care (an outreach organisation), current.
Co-Founder, Kids Club, Port Elliot Uniting Church, 24 years.
Started youth group, West Croydon Uniting Church, in the 1970s.
Volunteer, Victor Harbor Lutheran School, 4 years.

Mr Milton Keith ROWE

For service to the Uniting Church in Australia.

Voluntary Lay Preacher, Port Elliot Uniting Church, Uniting Church in Australia, since 1997; Voluntary Lay Preacher, West Mitcham Uniting Church, 1963-1995; Voluntary Lay Preacher, in a range of areas, Uniting Church, since 1977 and Voluntary Lay Preacher, Methodist Church, 1957-1977, including at Riverton from 1957-1959.
Has held a range of positions including Chairman of the Elders; Chairman of Congregation; and as the Sunday School Superintendent.

Mrs Edna Joyce WHEATON

For service to the community of Kangaroo Island.

Office Bearer, Adult Fellowship, Kangaroo Island Uniting Church; Supporter of church activities. Responsible for building Methodist Church Hall, Kelly Hill Caves, 1950s.
