Seaford Ecumenical Mission Announcement

22 Nov 2016

Christian churches in Adelaide have announced plans to close the Seaford Ecumenical Mission at Noarlunga, following the end of their 20-year lease arrangement.

Anglican, Catholic, Church of Christ, Lutheran and Uniting churches have informed the local community of their decision to place the property on the market.

The reasons are a combination of financial and mission factors, including the end of the lease arrangement with the South Australian Health Department.

The SEM communities do not have the resources to meet the costs of ongoing ownership, nor do the churches have the capacity to sustain the plant and property.

The five churches will do all they can to support the communities, mission and activities of the mission into the future.

Together, the churches will seek new ways to preserve all that is good, in other places and other ways.

There is no date for the closure yet, and the churches will continue to communicate with their communities.

The Seaford Ecumenical Mission was established 20 years ago. It combined State-funded health services and traditional social outreach of churches.

Each denomination provides church services at the centre on Sunday and during the week.

Community services include emergency food vouchers and parcels, an op shop, community craft, and music sessions for pre-school children and for adults.
