Seeds XS turns 21!

On Friday 18 November, Seeds Uniting Church celebrated 21 years of youth ministry. Approximately 400 people - from current Seeds members to those who served the Seeds XS youth ministry during the last 20 years – gathered to reflect, remember and rejoice at all God has done, and is currently doing, in and through this ministry.

The night officially kicked off at 7.30pm with high energy worship. Several former XS leaders played in the worship band, and one of XS’s longest serving leaders, Daniel Sharp, returned for the night to help emcee.

Also in attendance were special guests Craig and Kay Bailey, Andrew and Steph Hogarth, and Rachel and Peter Riggs. Each of these couples served in ministry at Seeds for five or more years, and they have all been hugely significant in the XS community.

The gathering took the opportunity to honour those who don’t always get the recognition for the many long hours and ups and downs that youth ministry affords, and the guests shared highlights and insights in joy and celebration.

Five young people were baptised at the event, declaring their love and devotion to Christ. The congregation heard their testimonies and witnessed this pivotal moment, praying for them and celebrating not only the past, but the present and future work of God in the church.

Following the service, there was cake, conversation and an opportunity for past and present members of the community to reconnect. While it is impossible to track all of the young people who made a commitment to follow Christ through XS – many of whom are now serving in various places around the world – it was a great time to reflect on and celebrate the many lives this ministry has changed.

Seeds sends a big thanks to their regular leadership team who stretched to accommodate and facilitate above and beyond their usual roles for the evening. It was a great night that gave glory to God for all that he has done, as well as honouring his hardworking and faithful servants.

This was a very special night, celebrating an incredible youth ministry that has been making a significant impact on young people for over 20 years.

Seeds also recognises Neil Milton and his family, who are interstate and were unable to attend the night, and Matthew and Rebecca Carratt, who led the ministry for an interim period.

Finally, Seeds Uniting Church would like to honour Craig Bailey for his vision and faith in believing for more for the XS youth ministry and empowering others to lead.

Reflection of the Week - 26th March 2024

Reflect, today, upon how willing you are to embrace sacrifice in your own life. No, your sacrifices are not able to save the world by their own merit, but if you face your crosses in life, be they big or small, and if you intentionally and wholeheartedly unite them to the actions of Jesus that first Holy Week, then you can be certain that you will suffer with our Lord. But you can also be certain that your suffering will be transformed by the power of this Holy Week and lead you to a glorious sharing in His triumph over all sin and suffering.

Stories of Life

Who doesn’t love a story? Hope, conflict, wonder, desperation, loneliness, surprise, love, a hero. Story seems to be wired into our DNA. We all tell them, and we find many ways to do them.

Reflection of the Week - 19th March 2024

The act of making a pilgrimage – traveling to a sacred place to encounter the divine – is ancient, probably as old as humanity itself. Perhaps the first Christian pilgrimage was that of the Wise Men, men who were not even believers in the Messiah, but who knew that “something” drew them from their homes and studies. Unsure as to what they sought, they found not a someTHING, but a someONE: Christ the Lord.
