Day 36 – “Jump for joy: Jesus saves”

with Matthew Yanawana
Tribe/Language: Mangala people, Bidyadanga Community, WA
Devotional written by Karen Schneider

Scriptures:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17 NIV)

My children, you have come from God and have conquered these spirits because the One who lives within you is greater than the one in this world. (1 John 4:4 Voice)

Reflect:

“The greatest gift of God is salvation: His love, His mercy, His grace” – Matthew Yanawana

Pray:

Let’s pray with Matthew:

“Jesus, we want to see your hand stretch out, touching families that are broken, lives that are broken, children that are broken, communities that are broken. I say to them, ‘come to Jesus!’ They will say, ‘I once was lost, but now I’m found. I was blind, but now I can see.’ It’s the goodness of God that flows in love today – I say [to the broken ones]: ‘it can flow in you through the Spirit of God.’

“The lost souls will come into Your kingdom, God. You said in Your word, Lord, that You will draw all men to Yourself. There will be pastors, there will be missionaries reaching the lost. Oh yes, Lord: the Outback won for Jesus. Remote communities won for Jesus. We will see Jesus’ name reign in communities, in hearts, in families.

“To all those who don’t yet know Him: ‘Jesus is the answer for your life. Jesus is still the same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus is the answer for this world today and He’s here with us because He said ‘He will never leave us nor forsake us’. For he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty and I will say of the Lord, ‘He’s my refuge and He’s my fortress.’

“To the people of Australia we say: if your life is troubled, there is someone who loves you. Not this world or what life can give you, but Jesus. He can solve every situation in life: sickness, finance, broken marriages, alcohol and drugs. Jesus is the answer for the world today, and for Australia, because He said in His word, ‘My ways are not your ways. My thoughts are not your thoughts.’ Heaven is His throne, and earth is his footstool. That’s a big God we serve! Maybe you say that your issues in life are bigger than what God can do but He’s done greater things: He has opened the Red Sea, He can open your heart and touch your life. He’s a big God and He loves you. Australia, look to Jesus. He can be the answer to your life, and for Australia.

“In Jesus’ name we pray.”

The 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting resource was created by a group of people who feel Jesus wants Australia to listen to our Indigenous brothers and sisters. They travelled all over Australia filming people's stories of how Jesus' power had transformed their lives, families and communities.

Daily devotionals are provided during the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, and can be downloaded all at once, viewed each day from the website or delivered to your inbox.

Stories of Life

Who doesn’t love a story? Hope, conflict, wonder, desperation, loneliness, surprise, love, a hero. Story seems to be wired into our DNA. We all tell them, and we find many ways to do them.

Reflection of the Week - 19th March 2024

The act of making a pilgrimage – traveling to a sacred place to encounter the divine – is ancient, probably as old as humanity itself. Perhaps the first Christian pilgrimage was that of the Wise Men, men who were not even believers in the Messiah, but who knew that “something” drew them from their homes and studies. Unsure as to what they sought, they found not a someTHING, but a someONE: Christ the Lord.

Reflection of the Week - 26th March 2024

Reflect, today, upon how willing you are to embrace sacrifice in your own life. No, your sacrifices are not able to save the world by their own merit, but if you face your crosses in life, be they big or small, and if you intentionally and wholeheartedly unite them to the actions of Jesus that first Holy Week, then you can be certain that you will suffer with our Lord. But you can also be certain that your suffering will be transformed by the power of this Holy Week and lead you to a glorious sharing in His triumph over all sin and suffering.
