Reflection of the week

“Ugly as sin” is something I once heard used as a description of someone or something very unattractive, even repulsive. But when I am tempted to sin, it is because it is very attractive and tempting. I wrongly assume that something that feels good, tastes good or looks good can’t be bad for me.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” – Matthew 4:1

I can well understand that after fasting for 40 days, Jesus would find the idea of using his powers to turn a stone into a crusty, fresh loaf of bread very tempting. It was also in his power to take control of the city spread below him. His rejection of that temptation alerts me to the danger of building my own little empire.

Prayer

Lord, waken me to the danger of the beguiling nature of temptation, and empower me to choose rightly. In your name I pray. Amen.

Reflection of the Week - 16th April 2024

Don’t you wonder sometimes how our covenant Lord who is God – Creator, Master, and Teacher, can and does create from nothing and does not need anything or anyone but is helplessly in love with you?

Reflection of the Week - 23rd April 2024

While I claim no expert knowledge when it comes to sheep, I did find myself relating to Jesus in his role as the Good Shepherd in today's gospel (21st April).
