Induction service: Rev Phil Webber

All are welcome to attend an induction service for Rev Phil Webber to the Moonta & Districts Uniting Churches at Moonta Uniting Church on Thursday 31 May, 5.30pm.

 

New Police Check Form and ID requirements change

There are some key changes being introduced to the Uniting Church SA screening processes with respect to the Criminal History Check undertaken by volunteers, ministers and employees. The most significant of these changes relates to the ID requirement.

The outdated 100 points of ID basis is replaced by presenting four different identity documents. Details about the changes will be provided on a new application form, which will soon be available on the Uniting Church SA website. An update will be provided in UC e-News once the new form is available.

 

Open discussion for youth & young adults

Tuesday 5 June, 7.30pm // Uniting College for Leadership & Theology

Youth and young adults from the Uniting Church SA are invited to join the Moderator Rev Sue Ellis for a listening forum on marriage, same gender relationships and the upcoming Assembly meeting. This will be a respectful, pastoral space where people can listen together. Mark Schultz (Team Leader, Mission Resourcing) will facilitate the gathering.

Additional open discussions / listening forums are being coordinated through mission networks. Congregations and individuals interested in finding out more are encouraged to contact their mission network (contact details here).

 

Live Life Loud

The first Live Life Loud event of the season is fast approaching! The first event occurs on 1 June at Parafield Gardens Uniting Church (this event changed location and date - it was previously scheduled for 15 June).

Live Life Loud is a high energy worship night that endeavours to bring young people together and build a network between local churches. It is an interdenominational youth event held over several dates across multiple locations across SA with the aim of seeing lives transformed and local churches united. This year's theme is "Think Small".

Red Dove Café: thinking about volunteering?

The Red Dove Café will soon be calling for volunteers to help during the Royal Adelaide Show (31 August – 9 September). This is a worthwhile part of the mission of the Uniting Church and raises funds for mission. Last year, Red Dove Café raised $60,000. More information about times, shifts and how to get involved will be provided in UC e-News as it becomes available.

 

Peace Expo: Sharing stories to inspire us on paths to justice and peace

In February 2017, the SA Council of Churches announced projects that had received funding from a Bequest to assist in the work of Refugees and Displaced Persons. These projects are now complete. Come along to Morialta Uniting Church on Sunday 5 August, 2-4.30pm, to hear their stories, share resources and inspire one another on paths towards justice and peace.

UnitingWomen early-bird tickets close 31 May

Don't miss out on early-bird registration for the UnitingWomen 2018 conference! Save more than 15% by registering by Thursday 31 May. Registrations can be made online here.

UnitingWomen 2018 will be held in Brisbane from 27-30 September, 2018, and will focus on the theme “Weaving Wisdom and Wonder”. It will be a time for Christian women across Australia to gather, grow and be inspired. The conference’s speakers include Eloise Wellings, Uniting Church in Australia President-elect Deidre Palmer, Queensland Synod General Secretary Rev Heather den Houting and many more. A bursary is available for Uniting Church women in South Australia who wish to attend the UnitingWomen 2018 conference in Brisbane from 27-30 September this year. Applications close on Monday 16 July. The application form is available to download online here.

 

Packing Day – happening this week!

Packing Day is an activity of the National and World Mission Support Team affiliated with Uniting Church Adult Fellowships in SA, and working in partnership with the International Mission office of the Synod.

Packing Day gathers quality second-hand clothes to send to certain op shops and residential care facilities in central and northern Australia, in addition to a small number of schools. It is held annually over three sites – Athelstone, Marion and Balhannah.

Regional Rumble

Crystal Brook Uniting Church will host a Regional Rumble on Sunday 17 June from 5.30pm - an evening of food, friendship, worship and encouragement across Christian churches in the Mid-North of South Australia.

Regional Rumble is an initiative of some Uniting Church leaders who want to encourage the local churches across the north. People from all churches are welcome to attend. The theme for the June 2018 Regional Rumble is "Rural Mission".

Anti-Poverty Network SA: campaign launch event

Anti-Poverty Network SA will launch a new campaign titled “It’s time to raise Newstart” at a special event on Saturday 30 June, 2-5pm, at The Jade (142-160 Flinders Street, Adelaide).

Uniting Church SA Moderator Rev Sue Ellis will speak at the event alongside other guests and members of the Anti-Poverty Network SA. Speakers and performers will be announced in coming weeks.
