KCO wrap-up

KCO 2016 was held on 10 – 11 September at Adare Camping and Caravan Park, Victor Harbor, and followed the theme “BURST –Life with Jesus!”

The KCO team would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who participated in and supported KCO this year. It was a great weekend, the program ran smoothly, the weather was good, and all the logistics of new venues worked well.

Freedom Sunday

Freedom Sunday, an initiative of Stop the Traffik, will be held on Sunday 16 October. Freedom Sunday provides an avenue to raise awareness of human trafficking, and to pray together for freedom. Resources are now available here.

Support for Ben Yengi and Kajokeji Project in South Sudan

Many Uniting Church members will know of Ben Yengi OAM one of Australia’s first Sudanese refugees. Ben returned to South Sudan in 2007 to rebuild the village he fled in 1970 during the country’s first civil war. He is in the process of building a hospital, school and church, and establishing sustainable farming practices.

Ben’s efforts so far have resulted in a much improved situation for the village. However, there is still more to be done! In the past, Uniting Church SA members and friends have been generous in their support of this project. Ben is now asking for further assistance, particularly to cover the materials needed to complete the village’s nursery school.

For more information about this project and how to offer support, please contact Doris Henderson (Prospect Road Uniting Church) via email at Turn on Javascript!  or phone 0409 671 031.

A big week ahead for Prospect Road Uniting Church

Prospect Road has a week packed with events coming! Their busy week starts with the Spring Fair at 10am on Saturday 1 October. This event will include a recital using the church’s 100 year old pipe organ, a farmyard petting zoo, food, stalls, and lots more! This will be followed by the church’s annual Blessing of the Animals service at 10am on Sunday 2 October, and finally the
new Wednesday Nights Lights event, starting at 7pm on Wednesday 5 October. For more information about Prospect Road Uniting Church and these upcoming events, please click here.

Red Dove Café – building closure event

As you may be aware, the building in which the Red Dove Café has operated since 1951 will be demolished as part of an upgrade of the carnival area at the Wayville Showgrounds. The Red Dove Café Committee is currently in positive negotiations regarding the future operation of the café in a different site from the 2017 Royal Adelaide Show.

To provide an opportunity for thanksgiving and acknowledgement of the significant service, outreach and fundraising for mission that has occurred in this historic building, a gathering and ceremony of closure will be held at 2.30pm on Sunday 2 October, at Red Dove Café in the Showgrounds. (Free parking will be available adjacent to the café building, drive in entry via the Rose Terrace gates of the Showgrounds.) All are welcome to attend this event. More information available here.
